Nutrition News

From the 6th April, It is now a legal requirement for large businesses (those with over 250 employees) to have calories displayed on all their menu items.

With 68% of customers researched* believing that the new legislation is a good idea, this looks like a welcome change allowing the general public to make healthier choices.

The new data needs to be apparent at the point of customers making menu choices, so this includes websites, menu boards and any digital displays. The information must clearly show the energy content in kilocalories (kcal) for food & drinks which are sold for immediate consumption.

This change in law is relevant to caterers, franchises and food delivery companies and aimed at chain businesses, rather than independents.

Also, if food is being provided for more than one person, such as a sharer plate or family style platters, the calories content must be displayed for the size of a single portion.

An added statement which informs customers that 2000kcal is the recommended daily intake for adults must also appear on pages where the calories information for items is displayed.

It sounds a lot but don’t worry, the good news is that EPOS Ready customers can meet all of these requirements using ByTable & TouchTakeaway menus to display all of the right information with a few clicks of a button!

The updated functionality on ByTable & TouchTakeaway are able to display calorie content on the menu if calorie content and portions are set against a PLU.

Options like half pints and extra toppings also now show calories content / number of portions if those are configured.

‘Adults need around 2000 kcal a day’ appears at the bottom of the menu if any of the items shown have calorie information showing.

Tick, tick and tick!

You will need to contact support@eposready.co.uk to have these features enabled, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
